Why Australia is becoming a gateway for global biotech expansion
Australia’s life sciences sector is entering a new phase of growth. In a recent PharmaCircle interview, our CEO Alexander Seyf shared why it matters, and what comes next.
A sector on the rise. Australia has nearly 3,000 life sciences organisations, a sector valued at close to A$250 billion, and an R&D tax incentive of up to 43.5% for eligible companies. It also sits between Western markets and Asia-Pacific. Strengths in cell and gene therapy, genomics and precision medicine, plus fast, high-quality early-stage trials, make it well placed for the decade ahead.
An industrialisation challenge. Alexander’s view is that regenerative medicine doesn’t have an innovation problem, it has an industrialisation problem. SMART CRC, with 63 partners and A$238 million of coordinated investment, aims to solve manufacturing challenges collectively rather than company by company. That’s why Autolomous has joined the SMART CRC Associates Program.
The digital layer matters. Manufacturing capability isn’t only about facilities and skilled teams. Connected manufacturing, quality, supply chain and regulatory data is what lets companies scale and stay traceable, and it’s what makes useful AI possible. That’s the role of autoloMATE®, our cloud-native, modular GxP platform.
Part of our APAC strategy. We don’t see Australia as a satellite market. Alongside SMART CRC, we’ve joined AusBiotech, bringing our UK, European and US experience to Australian companies and learning from Australia in return.
